The Federal Foreign Office's Cultural Preservation Programme invites you to participate in a unique initiative to protect and preserve cultural heritage across the globe. Since 1981, this program has been committed to safeguarding cultural identities and heritage worldwide.

What Projects Are Eligible?

The program supports projects that:

  • Protect and sustain cultural identity in partner countries.
  • Preserve endangered tangible and intangible cultural heritage, particularly those threatened by climate change, crises, or conflicts.
  • Contribute to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Encourage knowledge and technology exchange in cultural preservation.

Examples of eligible activities include:

  • Restoring historic artifacts and World Heritage sites.
  • Documenting and digitizing endangered cultural traditions, manuscripts, and archives.
  • Providing training for restorers, archivists, and cultural heritage experts.

Projects that emphasize diversity, inclusion, and capacity building will receive special consideration.

How to Apply:

To participate in the first stage of the competition, only a concept note is required. If your concept is shortlisted, you will be invited to submit a detailed project description and financing plan.

Who Can Apply?

Government agencies, NGOs, and individuals in Germany or abroad are encouraged to apply. Projects should ideally involve collaboration between German and host country partners and demonstrate secured financing.
